Payload

The payload is the actual data encoded in a QR code, most often a URL, but also text, contact details, or Wi-Fi credentials.

"Payload" is the content a QR code carries. For a website code it's a URL; for a vCard code it's a block of contact fields; for a Wi-Fi code it's the network name and password in a specific format. The phone's camera decodes the payload and decides what to do with it: open a link, add a contact, or join a network.

With a static code the payload is the final destination, frozen forever. With a dynamic code the payload is a short redirect URL, so the real destination lives on a server and stays editable. See the supported data types reference for what a QR code can carry.
