TangoQR vs. free QR code generators
The dozen free QR sites are genuinely useful for a throwaway code. The catch is what "free" gets you: a static code with the URL baked into the image. Print it, and the link can never change. If it breaks, the code is dead. TangoQR gives you a free code that stays editable.
At a glance
| TangoQR | free QR code generators | |
|---|---|---|
| Change it after printing | Yes, repoint anytime | No, the URL is baked in |
| If the link dies | Edit the destination; the print still works | The code is dead; reprint |
| Scan analytics | Total scans on every code | None, it's just an image |
| Cost | Free to start, editable | Free, but static |
Where free QR code generators is a fair choice
Where a free static generator is a fine choice. If the link behind your code will truly never change (a permanent homepage, a fixed WiFi password, a one-day event you'll throw away after), a static generator is quick and free, and there's no reason to use anything heavier. (We even make a few such tools ourselves; see our free tools.)
Where it falls short for this job
The moment the destination might change, a static code becomes a liability:
- You can't repoint it. The URL is encoded into the pattern. A new link means a new code and a reprint.
- If the link dies, the code dies. A retired page turns every printed code into a dead end.
- No analytics. A static image can't count a single scan, since there's no redirect behind it to measure.
How TangoQR is different
A TangoQR code points at a redirect we host, not straight at your link. The image on the wall stays the same forever; you change where it sends people whenever you need to. It's free to start, with no signup for your first code. And unlike a static generator, the printed code stays alive and reports its scans.
Pricing
Our pricing is simple: Free ($0, unlimited codes, editable per code for its first 50 scans) or Pro ($10/month or $100/year for editing and detailed analytics on every code, plus no TangoQR wordmark). The free static generators are free because they hand you an image and nothing else. There's no redirect, so there's nothing ongoing to charge for.
Who should stay with free QR code generators
A plain free generator is the right call if the link will never change and you don't care about scan counts. A static image is simpler and there's nothing to manage. TangoQR is for the (very common) case where the destination might move after you've printed the code.
